I am in the final stretch of being done with cataloging the Wichita Eagle-Beacon cards. The series ends sometime in 1985. Today's update includes some Hall of Fame baseball and football icons: Carl Eller (Football HOF 2004), Catfish Hunter (Baseball HOF 1987), Al Kaline (Baseball HOF 1980), Willie Lanier (Football HOF 1986), John Madden (Football HOF 2006), and Stan Musial (Baseball HOF 1969). John Madden is actually more widely known as a color commentator and video game franchise than he is for the coaching he did at the Oakland Raiders.

Here is the first installment for the 1985 Wichita Eagle-Beacon series. There were basketball, football, golf, soccer, tennis, and volleyball players in this update. A little something for everybody. The Wichita Eagle-Beacon is anything but boring. There were four players in the Hall of Fame: Seve Ballesteros (Golf HOF 1999), Fred Biletnikoff (Football HOF 1988), Buck Buchanan (Football HOF 1990), and Ivan Lendl (Tennis HOF 2001).

Instead we have professional tennis players, Olympic athletes, and college basketball players. All of the tennis players are in the International Tennis Hall of Fame: Jimmy Conners (HOF 1998), John McEnroe (HOF 1999), and Guillermo Vilas (HOF 1991).

I'm nearing the end of the 1984 Wichita Eagle-Beacon set. I have just 2 more microfilm strips to look at and I should have those in the next 2 weeks. Today's update had stars from all kinds of sports: baseball, basketball, football, golf, hockey, and soccer. There were a many Hall of Fame players from nearly every sport: Phil Esposito (Hockey HOF 1984), Tony Esposito (Hockey HOF 1988), (Elvin Hayes (Basketball HOF 1990), Walter Payton (Football HOF 1993), Patty Sheehan (Golf HOF 1993), and Bill Walton (Basketball HOF 1993).

I got my next set of microfilm in lightning speed this time around. There was pretty much nothing of interest in this update with the exception of Hockey Hall of Fame player Mike Bossy (Hockey HOF 1991) and Lance Parrish from the Detroit Tigers. Overall, there were a number of unknown players, coaches, and college sports in this update.
